Kopech, Moncada off to big starts in Minors

CHICAGO -- Another night, another stellar performance for the White Sox top prospects.
Michael Kopech, the No. 15 prospect overall per MLBPipeline.com and No. 3 for the White Sox, made his debut Saturday for Double-A Birmingham and fanned 10 in 4 1/3 innings. Yoán Moncada, the No. 2 prospect overall and No. 1 for the White Sox, launched his first home run for Triple-A Charlotte, backing up two homers and six RBIs from first baseman Danny Hayes and third baseman Nicky Delmonico falling a double short of the cycle.
Zack Collins, who sits at No. 78 overall and No. 6 for the White Sox, delivered his first home run for Class A Winston-Salem. And Dane Dunning (No. 10 White Sox), acquired from Washington as part of the Adam Eaton deal, struck out eight and yielded one run in six innings during his debut for Class A Kannapolis.
In an interview after his start, Kopech talked about doing most of the work with his high-octane fastball and slider.
"My approach today was to work on my offspeed stuff and I realized early it wasn't quite where it should be," said Kopech, who lost the feel for his changeup early. "So I started putting people away with fastball/slider."
Covey starting up soon
Dylan Covey threw about 85 pitches Saturday at extended Spring Training in Arizona, setting him up to start either Friday or Saturday in Minnesota. The date will depend on when the White Sox want to bring back José Quintana with Monday's off-day.
"He's continued to work, even with some of the rough weather we've had," White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "I don't know that it's affected him too much other than he just hasn't been on the field competing against the other guys."
