White Sox catcher Kyle Teel continues to near a return to the big league club.
Teel went 5-for-6 with a double, and two RBIs and three runs scored while catching all nine innings for Triple-A Charlotte in a 10-5 win over Buffalo on Friday night at Sahlen Field.
Teel is slated to play nine innings again on Saturday, after which he will be evaluated for a potential activation by the Major League club off the 60-day injured list.
The 24-year-old has yet to appear in a game for the White Sox this season after originally suffering a Grade 2 right hamstring strain on March 10, while playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. Teel's return was further delayed in mid-May, when he suffered a sprained LCL in his right knee four games into his rehab stint for Charlotte.
Teel, acquired from the Red Sox in 2024 as a part of the return package for Garrett Crochet, hit .273 with a .786 OPS in 78 games for the White Sox last season. He also logged eight home runs with 35 RBIs.
The White Sox could surely use Teel back in the lineup to help bolster their standing in the American League Central. Chicago (39-35) is tied for first place with the Guardians (40-36) following the conclusion of Friday's games.
