CLEVELAND -- For the second time in as many innings of Thursday's Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Red Sox and Indians, a manager used one of his replay challenges to erase a baserunner. An inning after Indians manager Terry Francona denied the Red Sox an add-on run by challenging a tag at home plate, Boston skipper John Farrell returned the favor by contending that Lonnie Chisenhall was thrown out trying to take second base on his game-tying single.
After a 1-minute, 35-second review, the initial safe call was overturned, clearing the bases for Red Sox starter Rick Porcello with nobody out after Jose Ramirez doubled and scored on Chisenhall's liner up the middle. Porcello recovered to retire Coco Crisp and strike out Tyler Naquin, taking a 1-1 game into the third inning, but Porcello allowed three homers in the third en route to taking the loss in a 5-4 Indians victory.
