Royals to celebrate Lorenzo Cain on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals today announced details for the Lorenzo Cain celebration at Kauffman Stadium, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 6. Prior to tomorrow’s 6:10 p.m. CT game vs. the Oakland Athletics, Cain will sign a one-day contract to retire with the Royals.

Beginning at approximately 5:45 p.m. CT, there will be an on-field ceremony to celebrate Cain, who won a World Series with the Royals in 2015. Special guests expected to participate in the ceremony include former Manager and 2023 Royals Hall of Fame inductee, Ned Yost, former teammates Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon and Special Assistant to the General Manager, Rusty Kuntz.

Cain played seven of his 13 seasons in the Majors with Kansas City from 2011-17. He is a two-time All Star (2015, 2018) and was named the MVP of the 2014 American League Championship Series. Cain led the Royals to a World Series championship in 2015, when he finished 3rd in the American League MVP voting. He was named Wilson Defensive Player of the Year four times, from 2012-2014 with the Royals and 2019 with the Brewers and was named a Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner in center field with Milwaukee in 2019.
