Arraez rises up and over tag! But forgets one very important thing

The creatively avoided tag is its own genre of baseball blooper. But spare a thought for the creatively unavoided tags, too.

More specifically, have a look at Luis Arraez's genuinely valiant attempt to get new Phillies teammate Alec Bohm a second RBI on his first-inning double off Miles Mikolas in Thursday night's 7-3 win over the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park.

Despite a perfect relay -- from Dylan Crews in right, through Nasim Nuñez at second, to Keibert Ruiz behind the plate -- beating him home by several steps, Arraez hopped over home plate, dodging Ruiz and his tag.

Given that touching home plate is mandatory, the strategy kind of fell apart there. There was no getting back around Ruiz. After a couple of attempted dekes, Arraez did what the rest of us probably would have done immediately -- took the "L," turned around and jogged back to the dugout.
