PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies tweaked their bullpen before Tuesday night's series opener against the Giants at AT&T Park.
They designated right-hander Andrew Bailey for assignment and promoted right-hander Luis García from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Bailey had a 10.43 ERA (17 runs in 14 2/3 innings) in his last 15 appearances after posting a 3.06 ERA in his first 18.
Garcia had pitched eight scoreless innings before his promotion. He has a 2.58 ERA in 39 Triple-A appearances.
"He's been pitching very well," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. "We have to decide who's going to be here and who's not going to be here. I'm happy to see Luis come back up, because he's had some opportunities in the past and showed some flashes. We like his arm, his stuff, and now he's going to get another opportunity to show us that he should be here next year and in the future."
