TORONTO -- After making his return to the mound on Tuesday with High-A Hudson Valley, Yankees right-hander Luis Gil made the short turnaround to start once again for the Renegades on Friday night.

Gil worked two scoreless innings against Wilmington, keeping the Blue Rocks out of the hit column while striking out two and issuing one walk on 30 pitches (17 strikes).

Gil allowed his lone baserunner to reach in the first inning, when he walked the second batter of the game, Chris Hacopian, on six pitches. But Gil settled in from there, retiring the next five hitters in order.

Gil recorded one strikeout in each inning, getting swinging strikes to set down Luke Dickerson in the first and Jacob Walsh in the second.

The 2024 American League Rookie of the Year was placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation on Aug. 8 while at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Gil could “potentially” slot into the club’s bullpen once he’s back to full health. In the meantime, the 28-year-old right-hander will continue his rehab assignment in the coming days as he looks to get back to full health.

“He’s got two ups today, and then I think he's going in like three or four days from now,” Boone said Friday from Rogers Centre. “So yeah, we'll see.”

In his first rehab outing on Tuesday, Gil needed just 13 pitches (12 strikes) to work a scoreless first inning that included one strikeout and two hits.

Gil began the 2026 campaign in Triple-A after battling injuries throughout 2025. He made just one start at Triple-A on April 5 before being recalled to the Majors, going on to pitch four times for the big league club, posting a 6.05 ERA with 11 walks and nine strikeouts across 19 1/3 innings before being optioned on April 27.
