MINNEAPOLIS -- Brewers infield prospect Luis Peña is back in business after a serious scare and a more than three-week layoff from baseball.

Peña, the Brewers’ No. 2-ranked prospect and No. 19 on MLB Pipeline’s overall Top 100, had been sidelined since he was hospitalized after passing out in the dugout during High-A Wisconsin’s game in Fort Wayne, Ind., on April 22. The Brewers believe the 19-year-old was merely dehydrated, but they put Peña through a full battery of medical testing, including cardiac and neurological tests, to rule out something more serious.

Finally satisfied that he is healthy, and with his symptoms gone, Peña was cleared earlier this week to resume baseball activities at the team’s complex in Arizona, the Brewers said Friday. He has already begun a progression in Arizona that should put him in his first Rookie-level Arizona Complex League game as early as next weekend.

As a procedural matter, the Brewers placed Peña on Wisconsin’s seven-day injured list, which will allow him to begin a Minor League rehab assignment with the ACL Brewers once he is game-ready.

Peña has played much of his professional career in the shadow of fellow 2024 international signee Jesús Made, who moved up to No. 1 on MLB Pipeline’s overall Top 100 just this week, but Peña is a premium five-tool prospect in his own right. Back at High-A this year after reaching that level at the end of last season as an 18-year-old, Peña was hitting .372/.462/.512 for the Timber Rattlers through his first 12 games of 2026, the last of which was cut short after eight innings when he was taken from the field in an ambulance.
