The Phillies’ Maikel Franco has received the Play of the Week Award presented by W.B. Mason for his jumping throw to get Christian Vázquez on Saturday against the Red Sox.

Franco made a backhanded play to grab the ball, which was fair but already far enough out that it was in foul territory. He then made a terrific throw from the air to nab Vázquez and end the top of the second inning.

Vázquez was running hard, too. He had a 27.0 ft/sec sprint speed on the play, which is the Major League average and well above his personal season average of 25.7 ft/sec.

Franco is the first Phillies player to receive Play of the Week honors this year, the inaugural season of the award.
