Aplin clears waivers; Mariners outright OF

SEATTLE -- Outfielder Andrew Aplin cleared waivers on Monday and has been outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma by the Mariners, keeping him in the organization after he was designated for assignment on Friday.
The Mariners acquired the 26-year-old Aplin on May 24, when he was claimed off waivers from the Astros. He hit .250 (6-for-24) with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs in six games for Tacoma before being designated to open a 40-man roster spot when Seattle promoted infielder Tyler Smith and right-hander Tyler Cloyd to the big league roster.
Aplin, a fifth-round Draft pick by the Astros out of Arizona State in 2012, has hit .271 with a .368 on-base percentage in six Minor League seasons. He posted a .250/.375/.345 line in 30 games with Triple-A Fresno in the Astros' system before being designated for assignment by Houston on May 22.
