Seager carries Mariners to series win over A's

OAKLAND -- The streaking Mariners rolled to another victory on Sunday afternoon, getting four RBIs from third baseman Kyle Seager in an 8-4 decision over the A's for a series win at the Coliseum.
"A lot of guys chipped in and contributed it," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "It was nice. We needed to go out and win the series and score a few runs in the last game. We got it done today."
Seager notched two doubles, his second clearing the bases in the sixth inning, to help the Mariners secure their eighth win in their last nine games while remaining two games back of an American League Wild Card spot. Adam Lind chipped in with a solo home run, his 17th of the season.
A's left fielder Khris Davis notched his 30th home run in the sixth, a two-run shot off of Mariners starter Wade LeBlanc, who allowed three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Ryon Healy and Brett Eibner also homered for Oakland. More >
"Davis has had a heck of a year," Servais said. "He's got big power, he doesn't miss them when they're in the zone."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Seager joins elite company: Seager now has 31 doubles this season, the fourth season in a row he's hit at least 30 doubles and 20 home runs. He's the seventh Mariners player in history to cross both thresholds at least four times, joining Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr., Raul Ibanez, Bret Boone and Alex Rodriguez.

Khris keeps khrushing: Davis became the first A's player to join the 30-homer club since Brandon Moss totaled 30 home runs in 2013. Davis, who has the fourth-most home runs in the AL, has homered in three straight games for the second time in his career. Going back to his last 162 games, he has 50 home runs and 116 RBIs.
"He would probably consider it not a big deal," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "Thirty is a nice round number, and for the first time to get there at a point where he is in his career ... Obviously there's a lot of games left. He could significantly pass that. But it's a feather in his cap for sure." More >
Seattle's second chance: It appeared the A's escaped the top of the fourth inning unscathed on an inning-ending double play from Mike Zunino. But Seattle challenged, arguing Tyler Ladendorf never touched second base on the turn, and won after a nearly four-minute review, prolonging the inning. Shawn O'Malley singled up the middle on the next at-bat, scoring Dae-Ho Lee with two outs to take a 4-1 lead.
"I didn't try to do too much with it," O'Malley said. "Just get a base hit somewhere and hopefully score Dae-Ho. Luckily I hit it soft enough for him to score … I was just trying to stay locked in while the whole thing was going on."

Lind has three homers in five career plate appearances against Zach Neal, having hit two homers off the righty May 25 at Safeco Field. He's the first player to hit three homers in his first three plate appearances against a single pitcher since Ryan Zimmerman hit three homers off Chris Tillman on May 29, 2013.

WHAT'S NEXT
Mariners:Félix Hernández (6-4, 3.39) takes the mound to open a four-game series against the Angels at 7:05 p.m. PT in Anaheim. Hernandez has made five starts since coming off the disabled list July 20 with a right calf strain, and gave up one run in seven innings Wednesday against the Tigers, striking out eight while walking four batters.
A's: The A's return to Globe Life Park on Monday for the start of a three-game road series with the Rangers. Left-hander Ross Detwiler, who twirled eight shutout innings in his A's debut last week, will be on the mound against his former team for the 5:05 p.m. PT opener.
