Marlins pick up reliever Morin on waivers

The Marlins added another experienced reliever at a time when they are dealing with roster uncertainty due to coronavirus concerns.

The club claimed right-hander Mike Morin off waivers from the Brewers on Tuesday. The 29-year-old is the third reliever added in the past two days. Right-hander Justin Shafer and lefty Josh D. Smith were claimed off waivers from the Reds on Monday.

The extra relievers join the organization as all of the Marlins' games through Sunday have been postponed. Major League Baseball said it was allowing the Marlins time to focus on providing care for their players and planning their baseball operations for a resumption early next week.

Morin, 29, was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Sunday. He played for the Twins and Phillies in 2019, combining for a 4.62 ERA in 50 2/3 innings. He logged a 5.79 ERA in 28 innings for Philadelphia, after having a 3.18 ERA in 22 2/3 innings for Minnesota.
