No-no doubt: Volquez nets NL Player of Week

Two days after throwing his first career no-hitter, Edinson Vólquez added his first National League Player of the Week Award to his mantle on Monday.
Volquez became the third Marlins player to win the award in 2017 -- following catcher J.T. Realmuto and left fielder Marcell Ozuna in the first two weeks of the season -- after giving up just one run over 15 innings in two starts with 14 strikeouts.
The week started off strong enough when he held the Phillies to a run on three hits over six innings, but then came the no-hitter against the D-backs. It was baseball's first in more than a year, dating back to Cubs' Jake Arrieta's no-no on April 21, 2016.

Volquez's 98-pitch outing was the first "Maddux" -- a shutout with fewer than 100 pitches -- no-hitter since Miami's Henderson Alvarez did it on Sept. 29, 2013. That was also the most recent Marlins no-hitter and the only other one in Marlins Park history. There have been six no-hitters in Marlins history.
"When you're little, as a baseball player, first you want to be in the big leagues, throw a no-hitter, go to the All-Star Game," Volquez said. "It's a dream come true."
Volquez led NL pitchers with 14 strikeouts and led all starters with 15 innings pitched and a .067 batting average against in the week.
