Sources: Prado to get 3-year extension

MIAMI -- With less than a week remaining in the regular season, the Marlins have addressed what would have been one of their top offseason priorities.
Martín Prado, the team's unofficial captain, has agreed to terms on a three-year, $40 million contract, sources have told MLB.com. The Marlins have not confirmed the deal.
Prado, 32, would have been a free agent after the season. But the Marlins had made bringing the veteran third baseman back a high priority.
Respected league-wide for his professionalism, Prado has been a team leader since he was acquired from the Yankees in December 2014.
The Venezuela native is making $11 million this season, with the Yanks picking up $3 million.
Prado has made an impact at the plate, hitting .305/.360/.415, with seven home runs and 73 RBIs.
Retaining Prado also serves as a sign Miami intends to retain its core.
As an organization, the Marlins are grieving José Fernández, who was killed in a boating accident on Sunday morning.
Prado's presence will be counted on as the franchise aims to move forward at a difficult time.
