Prado placed on DL; Rojas to follow

MIAMI -- Significant injuries are starting to pile up for the Marlins, as third baseman Martín Prado was placed on the 10-day disabled list prior to Monday's 9-4 loss with a strained right hamstring, and utility infielder Miguel Rojas is headed to the DL with a broken right thumb.
Prado will miss several weeks; Rojas may need surgery, and he is expected to be in a cast for several months.
On Monday the Marlins recalled infielder JT Riddle from Triple-A New Orleans to replace Prado, and a corresponding move for Rojas is expected on Tuesday. Tyler Moore, a right-handed-hitting first baseman at New Orleans, is expected to have his contract selected. Moore was scratched from the Baby Cakes' lineup on Monday.
An X-ray on Monday revealed Rojas' fracture, which was sustained on a check swing during Sunday's 7-0 win over the Mets.

"More good news," manager Don Mattingly said sarcastically. "His thumb is broken. He will be out for a while. I think they told me he is going to be in a cast for a couple of months. That's a pretty good blow to us, because Miggy is playing well. He brings a ton of energy to the game, and also is able to play so many spots for us."
Rojas, batting .338, had been seeing regular time at shortstop, and he also plays the other three infield spots.
For Prado, it's his second trip to the DL this season. He opened the year on the DL with a strained right hamstring, an injury sustained on March 15 while playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.
The 33-year-old pulled up while running the bases in the seventh inning on Sunday.

Derek Dietrich is the primary third-base option; Riddle can also play some third.
After coming off the DL on April 17, Prado posted a slash line of .290/.315/.406, with two home runs and six RBIs in 17 games.
"We expect [that] something like this [won't heal in] a week," Mattingly said. "It's a little bit longer-term. We're going to have to deal with it."
Riddle, 25, is a left-handed-hitting shortstop who rejoins the Marlins for the second time. In 14 big league at-bats, he has two hits, including a walk-off home run that beat the Mets on April 16.

At New Orleans, Riddle was batting .290 with two homers and six RBIs.
Worth noting
• José Ureña impressed on Sunday in his first start, throwing six shutout innings and allowing just one hit. He likely will start on Friday in place of Wei-Yin Chen, who is on the DL with left arm fatigue. Chen said the discomfort is in his elbow, and he's been pitching through a slight UCL tear. Chen is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, and after that he will be re-evaluated.
• Edinson Vólquez (blister on right thumb) is expected to be reinstated from the DL and start on Saturday.
