Marlins visit Niagara Falls, recreate 'Titanic'

After 12 straight days of baseball, the Marlins received a much-needed day off on Monday. They celebrated Memorial Day in Buffalo -- where they began a two-game series on Tuesday against the Blue Jays -- by taking a trip to Niagara Falls.

Several players joined in on the festivities including Starling Marte and Jesús Aguilar. The Marlins posted a short video to their Twitter account to highlight their amazing day, which even included players recreating a scene from the movie "Titanic."

“It's good to get out in the air and get some sun,” said Marlins manager Don Mattingly. “We didn't get too much of the sun in Boston, but it sounds like the guys had a good time. Anytime the guys can get together, you know, away from the field is always a good experience.”

Another player who went along for the ride was Anthony Bass, a former Blue Jay and a player who saw the Falls prior to the team's trip.

“I went when I was like eight or nine years old, I actually saw from the Canadian side, so it was cool to go on a boat this time and once we were actually in the midst of the base of the waterfall,” said Bass, a Michigan native. “It was pretty exhilarating. The boat was shaking. I felt like we're in a storm so that was pretty fun. We all had a blast; everyone was saying that they're glad that they went.”

Niagara Falls is just 30 minutes from Buffalo, the site of Toronto's Triple-A affiliate and where the big league club will call home after playing the first two months of its home schedule at its Spring Training facility in Dunedin, Fla. Tuesday marked the Blue Jays’ first 2021 home game in Buffalo after they played their home games there during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. It is yet be determined if the Blue Jays will be able to return to play any home games in Toronto this season.
