WASHINGTON -- The Rockies' No. 20 prospect, right-hander Mason Adams -- who joined the organization at the Trade Deadline in the deal that sent center fielder Brenton Doyle to the White Sox -- will make his Major League debut in a start on Tuesday night against the Nationals, according to a Major League source. The club has not confirmed.
Adams, 26, who has a 2.08 ERA in three starts at Triple-A Albuquerque, will step in for lefty veteran Kyle Freeland, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with a pinched nerve in his neck. Freeland sustained the injury 3 2/3 innings into his start on Wednesday night against the Dodgers.
In a corresponding move, the Rockies called up righty Blake Adams for Monday night's game at Nationals Park. He has a 6.52 ERA in 25 games (two starts) combined at Albuquerque and Double-A Hartford.
Mason Adams, a 13th-round Draft pick by the White Sox in 2022 out of the University of Jacksonville, rose to prospect status before undergoing Tommy John right elbow surgery on April 2, 2025, and missing that season.
In his return, Adams made 14 appearances -- the last nine (seven starts) at Triple-A Charlotte, where he posted a 4.25 ERA and struck out 36 against 17 walks in 36 innings.
At Albuquerque, Adams held opponents to nine hits in 13 innings with no home runs and 13 strikeouts against three walks.
The Rockies also acquired 17-year-old infield prospect Carlos Vielma in the trade for Doyle, who won National League Gold Glove Awards in his first two seasons (2023-24).
In his most recent outing on Thursday, Mason Adams went five innings, holding Las Vegas to one run on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Rockies have quickly folded their upper-level Deadline acquisitions into the Major League squad. Adams joins infielder Connor Norby, who is 9-for-31 with one home run in 11 games since coming from the Marlins; righty reliever Nick Frasso, who has a 5.63 ERA in his seven-game Major League debut since his arrival from the Dodgers; and lefty reliever Mark Manfredi has a 3.00 ERA through three Major League games after being acquired from the Brewers.
