Shortstop Masyn Winn, whose 11th-inning single Wednesday gave the Cardinals a 2-1 win over the Mets, was involved in a one-car accident just hours after the game.
According to a team statement by the Cardinals, Winn was alone in the vehicle when he hit a patch of wet pavement while driving on Interstate 64 near St. Louis. Although he was taken to a hospital, Winn fortunately escaped without suffering any serious injuries.
"Following [Wednesday's] game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Interstate 64/Highway 40 due to wet pavement," the statement explained. "Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries. We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn [yesterday]."
The Cardinals have an off-day on Thursday before beginning a six-game road trip Friday afternoon in Detroit.
