Holliday, Gardner lead way as Yanks rout Nats

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Nationals sold out the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches for the first time in its short history, as 7,675 fans were in attendance for Monday afternoon's matchup with the Yankees. Brett Gardner drove in a pair with a two-run single in the second and Matt Holliday launched a two-run home run as New York came away with a 9-3 victory.
The home run was the third of the spring for Holliday, who's hitting .306. Both starting pitchers -- Michael Pineda and Vance Worley -- struggled with their command in the second inning.

This was the first start for Worley, a non-roster invitee whose versatility could make him a useful addition to the bullpen. The right-hander got a little wild in the second inning, which he began with a pair of walks. Rob Refsnyder drove in the first run on an RBI double, followed by a run-scoring single from Ronald Torreyes. Gardner capped off the inning with a two-run single.
Worley eventually settled in a bit, exiting after giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks over 3 1/3 innings.

Yankees right-hander Pineda also began the second inning by walking a pair. He eventually was pulled from the game with two outs in the second after allowing a RBI single to Adam Eaton and recording 46 pitches. Adam Lind had a two-run double off J.R. Graham, who eventually escaped a bases-loaded jam by inducing a groundout from Bryce Harper.
Gleyber Torres, New York's No. 1 prospect, drove in a pair with a double in the eighth inning off left-hander Neal Cotts.

Yankees: The Yankees will get their first look at Chris Sale in a Red Sox uniform when they return home on Tuesday, meeting Boston under the lights at 6:35 p.m. ET on MLB.TV. Bryan Mitchell will be on the mound for New York.
Nationals: The Nationals will host the division-rival Braves for the first time this spring at 1:05 ET Tuesday afternoon at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Gio González will make his fifth spring start for Washington.
