Wieters placed on DL with left hamstring strain

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of catcher Spencer Kieboom from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday and placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. Additionally the Nationals transferred outfielder Adam Eaton to the 60-day disabled list. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
Kieboom, 27, returns to the Nationals for his first major league assignment of the season. He joins the Nationals after hitting .250 (21-for-84) with four doubles, one home run, 10 RBI, one hit-by-pitch, 10 walks and eight runs scored in 25 games for Syracuse. He has thrown out 34 percent (121-of-353) of would-be base stealers during his professional career.
Wieters, 31, has hit .246 in 19 starts this season for the Nationals with one double, three home runs, one hit-by-pitch, seven RBI, ten walks and six runs scored. Wieters has thrown out six would-be base stealers, putting him in a tie for first among National League catchers (tied for third in MLB).
Eaton, 29, has been on the disabled list since April 11 (retroactive to April 9) with a left ankle bruise. Prior to the injury, he was hitting .345 with three doubles, two home runs, five RBI, three walks and 10 runs scored. He posted a .424 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging percentage along the way and was named National League Player of the Week for the week ending April 1.
