NEW YORK -- Yankees left-hander Max Fried, on the injured list since mid-May because of a left elbow bone bruise, continues to make progress. After having a bullpen session on Friday, Fried will throw live batting practice on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. He is expected to throw 35 pitches.

Fried will not be ready to pitch in a big league game for at least another month. He has to go through several live sessions as well as a rehab assignment.

“He looks really good. He feels really good. He looks like Max Fried. For him, it’s just a matter of building up some volume from a pitch count standpoint,” manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday’s game against the Twins.

While he was out, Fried spent time working on his mechanics. He said he never felt comfortable on the mound all year.

“I’m trying to dial it in, be a little more balanced and just be more on time,” Fried said. “I’ve been playing with a few things. It felt really good, so far. I’m trying to take it into some live sessions and some games here.”

Fried is 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in 10 starts this season, his second with New York. His return would potentially give the Yankees a formidable 1-2-3 punch atop their rotation alongside American League Cy Young Award frontrunner Cam Schlittler and 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole.
