Pipeline Preview: Povse looking to extend scoreless streak

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch:Mike Gerber (Tigers' No. 7), Erie at Altoona (6 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Gerber went 4-for-5 on Monday to extend his hitting streak to seven games for Double-A Erie. One of those hits was his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning, and he also picked up his third stolen base in the contest. With the four-hit performance, Gerber improved his average to .302 from .237.

Pitcher to watch:Max Povse (Mariners' No. 5), Arkansas at San Antonio (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Povse has yet to be scored on in his two starts for Double-A Arkansas. The 23-year-old right-hander has won each outing, allowing just five hits across 12 2/3 innings while walking four and striking out 11. In 2016, Povse pitched to a 3.36 ERA with a 139-to-29 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 158 innings (26 starts) between the Braves' Class A Advanced and Double-A levels.

Duel of the day: Sean Reid-Foley (Blue Jays' No. 2) vs. Justus Sheffield (Yankees' No. 7), New Hampshire at Trenton (7 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Reid-Foley, ranked No. 61 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, has made two starts for Double-A New Hampshire, neither of which has seen the 21-year-old right-hander pitch beyond the second inning. In his most recent outing, Reid-Foley allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings against Reading.

Sheffield, meanwhile, was sharp in his season debut for Trenton, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless frames against Arkansas to record the win. The No. 75 overall prospect allowed two hits and two walks while notching six strikeouts. The 20-year-old lefty reached Double-A for the first time late last season and fanned nine batters without yielding an earned run over four innings.
