An offense that's struggled to drive in runs early this season is getting one of its top run producers back. The White Sox reinstated outfielder Melky Cabrera from the paternity list Monday and slotted him into the lineup later against the Yankees.
Outfielder Willy García, who made his Major League debut Friday, was optioned to Double-A Charlotte in a corresponding move following Sunday's 3-1 win at Minnesota.
The White Sox have been kept afloat offensively by Avisaíl García, who leads the Majors in batting average over the first two weeks of the season. But Cabrera should only add to a lineup that's had to withstand slumps from sluggers José Abreu and Todd Frazier in the early going.
Cabrera was hitting .258/.324/.387 without a home run before missing three games. His wife, Johana, delivered the couple's fourth child Friday.
