MLB status pending, Familia to pitch in winter ball

Mets closer Jeurys Familia has received permission to pitch in winter ball as he faces possible suspension via Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence Policy, ESPN reported on Sunday. The Mets haven't officially issued a comment.
Familia, 27, is scheduled to attend a court hearing on Thursday for a simple-assault charge stemming from an Oct. 31 incident.
Familia will pitch for Gigantes del Cibao, which announced the move. He pitched six games for the club in 2013.
Familia was 3-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 51 saves for the Mets this past season.
