Top Mets prospect Jonah Tong's family delivers -- literally -- on his Double-A bobblehead night
Jonah Tong and his parents made a much-celebrated return to Binghamton's Mirabito Stadium on Wednesday night.
Sort of.
While the Mets' No. 1 prospect prepared for his next scheduled start on Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse, his parents were 75 miles south greeting fans at the home of the club's Double-A affiliate.
To help celebrate Tong's success with the Rumble Ponies, the club announced that July 1, Canada Day, would be "Canadian Cannon" Bobblehead Night in honor of MLB's No. 82 prospect, who hails from the Toronto area.
The first 1,500 fans were greeted by Tong's parents -- Alex and Karen Tong -- who made the trek from their home in Markham, Ontario, Canada to personally hand out bobbleheads crafted in their son's likeness.
The collectible features Tong following through on his delivery wearing a navy blue Rumble Ponies jersey, a red hat and white pants. In place of a pitching mound is a red maple leaf with his name emblazoned on the pedestal.
The festivities extended beyond the giveaway. The Springnecks Mid-Atlantic Trading Post hosted a bobblehead trading event prior to the game that enabled collectors to swap figures and add new pieces to their collections, creating a festival-like atmosphere around the ballpark.
The bobblehead and Tong's parents' presence made for a fitting tribute to a pitcher who fashioned one of the most dominating seasons by a Minor League hurler last year. The 2022 Draft pick spent a majority of his 2025 season with Binghamton en route to an MiLB-best 179 strikeouts.
The Ontario native has blossomed from a seventh-round pick in the 2022 Draft into one of the game's premier young arms, vaulting himself to the Majors for the final six weeks last year as the Mets made a failed playoff push.
For one night, though, the focus shifted away from strikeouts and scouting reports. Instead, Binghamton celebrated the man behind the prospect status, with Tong's family sharing the spotlight alongside the community that has embraced him throughout his rise.
