NEW YORK -- Having just laid down a bunt in the third inning Wednesday, Neil Walker pulled up lame about halfway down the first-base line and collapsed behind first base. The second baseman exited the Mets' 9-4 win over the Cubs with a left leg injury, and the team announced Walker will undergo an MRI exam on Thursday.
Walker was running hard down the line when he quickly reached for his left hamstring and hobbled his way to the base before falling to the ground.
Manager Terry Collins and trainer Ray Ramirez immediately jumped from the dugout to check on Walker, who left the field under their aid, although he was able to put some weight on the leg. Walker flied out to right in his first at-bat of the night.
Walker had already left the park by the time reporters reached the locker room, but Collins said he was "concerned" about his second baseman's status going forward, but was not sure of anything yet with the MRI pending.
"Until the doctor's report, until we have it looked at tomorrow, I've got nothing," Collins said. "I saw the same thing you did, and it looked like it was pretty painful."
Walker is hitting .270 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs on the season. He entered Wednesday batting .321 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs since May 1.
