Reliever John Curtiss, who is often seen taking batting practice and going all out shagging fly balls, scored the first run of his career in the seventh inning. He pinch-ran for Jon Berti, who sustained a concussion on a hit-by-pitch to the head, and came home on Starling Marte's bases-loaded walk. July 19: Nationals 18, Marlins 1 -- Detwiler joins Mahomes, others
Ross Detwiler became the 17th pitcher in the modern era to give up four homers in one inning pitched or less. Pat Mahomes, the father of the NFL star, is also on that list.

July 18: Phillies 7, Marlins 4 -- Garrett steps up with ... bat? Miami starter Braxton Garrett jumped all over a 98 mph fastball from Phillies All-Star Zack Wheeler in the third inning, lining a single into right field for his first career hit. The southpaw was 0-for-4 in his brief career prior to the base knock -- and opposing pitchers were just 2-for-27 with 19 strikeouts against Wheeler.

"That was pretty cool," Garrett said. "Just trying to get a fastball and hit it. See it and hit it. Pretty much it. I was just trying to find something out over the plate. If he gets that thing in on me, I'm done -- and so is the bat."

July 17: Phillies 4, Marlins 2 -- Thompson solid again
Though Zach Thompson's night was cut short when the Marlins opted to pinch-hit for him in the top of the fifth in an attempt to ignite the offense, the 27-year-old rookie continued the impressive start to his big league career. He allowed only two unearned runs, lowering his ERA to 1.93 through six starts. That's the second-lowest ERA by any pitcher in franchise history through his first six career games (all starts). The only pitcher with a better mark was Jordan Yamamoto, who posted a 1.59 ERA in his first six starts in 2019.

July 16: Phillies 5, Marlins 2 (Game 1) | Marlins 7, Phillies 0 (Game 2) -- What a relief

The 25-year-old right-hander has now tossed 20 1/3 scoreless innings in eight relief appearances this season (9.31 ERA in three starts).

"It's absolutely amazing," Holloway said when a reporter told him of the historic feat. "I didn't even know that until just now. It's awesome. ... At the end of the day, I don't really care about necessarily no-hitting a team, but that involves winning, and I'll take that. I'll take the win over everything else."
