Event marks the start of the Marlins celebration of Jackie’s legacy and impact on baseball and South Florida, including Jackie Robinson Day at loanDepot park on Friday, April 17

MIAMI – As part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to celebrate the life and legacy of Hall of Famer and civil rights activist Jackie Robinson, the Miami Marlins will host numerous activities and events centered around the sport’s trailblazer with the fifth annual Jackie Robinson Classic presented by NIKE on Friday, April 10, at loanDepot park, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM.

This year’s Jackie Robinson Classic features two local schools located just a few minutes from loanDepot park in Miami Senior High and Brooker T. Washington. Both teams will take the field at loanDepot park in a true MLB experience, with player introductions, walk-up music, and in-game entertainment. The student athletes will also receive customized Marlin’s shirts with the number 42 on the back along with one of Jackie’s nine values. The South Florida community is invited to cheer on the teams at the complimentary event.

The Marlins will then celebrate the life and legacy of Jackie on Friday, April 17 at loanDepot park as the club faces the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:15 p.m. In addition to Marlins players and coaches wearing Jackie’s number 42, the organization will highlight Jackie’s impact on society through his nine values. Student athletes from Miami Senior High and Brooker T. Washington will participate in pregame programming alongside The Player Alliance, which will host its “Equip the Future” educational component and donate items to support local youth. Participants will then take the field for a special pregame ceremony, highlighted by the national anthem.

The club’s recognition of Jackie Robinson Day marks the beginning of the third homestand of the season on Friday, April 17, opening with a three-games series against the Milwaukee Brewers, followed by a three-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals.
