PHOENIX -- On the same day they placed right-hander Ryne Nelson on the injured list with a setback that will keep him out until at least September, the Diamondbacks watched starter Michael Soroka walk off the mound with a trainer in the top of the second inning on Friday night against the Twins.

The Diamondbacks would go on to win, 9-5, but injuries were the tale of the night.

Soroka was warming up for the second when he injured something and was tended to by a trainer. After a brief conversation with manager Torey Lovullo, Soroka walked off the field.

The Diamondbacks were already going to need a starter for Sunday to take the place of Nelson, who suffered a strained flexor tendon and sprained ulnar collateral ligament.

If Soroka has to miss any time, Arizona’s starting pitching depth will be severely tested.

As if that weren’t bad enough, outfielder Jordan Lawlar left the game after beating out a bunt single in the eighth. Why Lawlar was removed was not immediately known.
