Pirates to open '17 season vs. Sox at Fenway

PHILADELPHIA -- The Pirates' 2017 season will begin April 3 against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, the Bucs' first trip to the historic Boston ballpark since 2005.
Major League Baseball announced next year's full regular-season schedule on Wednesday. For the Pirates, it starts with their fifth-ever series against the Red Sox, a three-game set from April 3-6. The Bucs last played the Sox in 2014 at PNC Park. The Pirates are 7-5 all-time against the Red Sox.
The Bucs' home opener is set for Friday, April 7 against the Braves. It will be Pittsburgh's first home opener against Atlanta since 1998.

The Pirates' Interleague Play schedule will once again line them up against the Tigers, their American League geographic rival. Pittsburgh will host Detroit on Aug. 7-8 and finish the home-and-home series at Comerica Park on Aug. 9-10.

Additionally, the Bucs will face the AL East in Interleague Play. The Yankees will come to PNC Park from April 21-23, the Rays from June 27-29 and the Orioles from Sept. 26-27, the final two home games of the regular season. The Pirates will travel to Boston to begin the season, Baltimore from June 6-7 and Toronto from Aug. 11-13.
The Bucs' first trip to a new ballpark, the Braves' SunTrust Park, will be a four-game swing from May 22-25. They will head into the All-Star break (July 10-13) following a seven-game road trip to Philadelphia and Chicago, and they will start the second half with a seven-game homestand against the Cardinals and Brewers.
The Pirates will head to the West Coast twice next season, playing the Dodgers and D-backs from May 8-14 and the Rockies, Giants and Padres from July 21-30. They will be on the road, in Philadelphia, on the Fourth of July and at home, playing the Cubs, for a Sept. 4 Labor Day game.
The Pirates will wrap up the regular season on the road, playing a four-game series at Nationals Park from Sept. 28-Oct. 1.
