MLB employees celebrate ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’
As millions of children across America joined their parents by tagging along with them to their respective jobs on Thursday, Major League Baseball was no exception to the fun.
And for some of the kids, it may have been their first taste at life in the big leagues.
Dozens of children aged from 8-11 years old whose parents work in the Office of the Commissioner or the MLB.com Office in New York, as well as MLB’s satellite office in Boulder, Colo., were invited to join in the festivities of the inaugural “MLB Bring Your Kids To Work Day” courtesy of the “MLB Home Base BRG.”
Exclusively at MLB.com's Chelsea offices in New York, children of employees got the chance to record their own podcasts in the podcast studio. In both NY offices, kids showcased their video-game expertise playing MLB The Show and R.B.I. Baseball. And as an added bonus, each child left the offices with a PLAY BALL bat and ball set to bring home the fun. Mr. Met even made an appearance at both NY locations to take photos and slap high-fives.
“Home Base BRG" is part of the robust Business Resource Group program that was created and managed by MLB’s Diversity and Inclusion Department. BRGs were instituted throughout Major League Baseball’s workforce as a way to engage and connect baseball’s employees in a way they had never been before.
Designed to bring people together, BRGs aim to bridge a connection or kinship among employees. MLB hopes to foster a culture that will lead to an inclusive, well-connected and more productive workforce.
The various BRGs -- Asian, Athletes to Executives, Black Professionals, Home Base, HYPE, Pride, SOMOS Women, and Military Veterans Professional (MVP) -- have already hosted a series of events in 2019 with many more to come throughout the year.
