MLB lands on Time's 100 Most Influential Companies list

Major League Baseball is one of TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies of 2023.

TIME unveiled its third annual TIME100 Most Influential Companies list on Wednesday, and MLB is included in the "Titans" category.

The 100 Most Influential Companies list highlights companies making an extraordinary impact around the world, and it includes five categories: Leaders, Disrupters, Innovators, Titans and Pioneers.

MLB was the only one of the major professional sports leagues on this year's list. Other companies in the "Titans" category include Disney, Apple and Microsoft.

With MLB's placement on the TIME100 list, Commissioner Rob Manfred joined TIME for an interview on baseball's new rule changes for 2023 and more.

"When I think about the game, I always begin with the notion of America’s pastime," Manfred said in the interview. "That connotes the fact that our game has a special place in our culture. Somebody else may have more revenue or higher ratings. But I think the important thing for us is that we always keep our eye on maintaining the place of baseball in American culture."

TIME creates its 100 Most Influential Companies list by considering nominations from both its global contributors and correspondents and outside experts and evaluating those companies based on factors like impact, innovation, ambition and success.

The full list of companies, including MLB, will be featured in the July 3 issue of TIME, which is available on newsstands starting this Friday.
