Here's who won MLB's Partner League championships

While the MLB Postseason is starting to ramp up, the playoffs have already come and gone for the four MLB Partner Leagues, with the final champion being crowned on Sunday, when the Lancaster Barnstormers took home the Atlantic League title. Here’s a look at who won each Partner League championship this season.

Frontier League: Québec Capitales beat Evansville Otters in five games

The Capitales stormed out of the gate to take a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series before the Otters took two in a row to force a decisive Game 5. Evansville’s Game 4 was the stuff of legend, as they were down, 2-1, in the bottom of the eighth inning but were able to score two runs on a wild pickoff throw from Evan Rutckyj.

They couldn’t carry that momentum into Game 5, however, as the Capitales jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to home runs from David Glaude and Tommy Seidl and cruised the rest of the way to a 12-3 win. The title was Québec's ninth in team history, the most for any Independent League organization.

Pioneer League: Ogden Raptors beat Billings Mustangs in two games

The Raptors, who had lost in the Division Round of the Pioneer League postseason in 2021 and ‘22, put together a sweep of the Mustangs to win their first PBL championship since 2017. After opening the postseason with an 11-0 defeat to the Rocky Mountain Vibes, the Raptors won their final four games of the postseason, outscoring their opponents, 26-13, over that span. The Raptors came from behind to clinch the championship, as Cam Phelts drew a game-tying walk with two outs in the fourth inning before Josh Broughton crushed a bases-clearing triple to give the Raptors a 4-1 lead.

The Mustangs added on two runs in the ninth inning to make it close, but Dan Kubiuk struck out the last two batters he faced to close out the Raptors’ 7-5 win.

American Association: Kansas City Monarchs beat Chicago Dogs in four games

The Monarchs nabbed their third Miles Wolff Cup in grand fashion thanks to a walk-off hit from Brian O’Grady in a wild 7-6 win. The Monarchs shot out of the gate with a 6-1 lead thanks to some timely hitting and an error, but the Dogs chipped away at the lead before tying the game on a groundout in the eighth inning, which set up O’Grady’s heroics.

The series started in the exact opposite fashion, as the Dogs won a 16-inning thriller in Game 1 thanks to a walk-off single from Cody Bohanek. That would be the last game in the series that the Monarchs would lose, however, as they won Game 2 behind a five-run fourth inning before picking up a win in Game 3 thanks to a three-run home run from Jan Hernandez.

Atlantic League: Lancaster Barnstormers beat Gastonia Honey Hunters in five games

The Barnstormers claimed their second straight Atlantic League title behind a strong pitching outing from Brent Teller (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 7 K), who picked up series MVP honors. The Barnstormers dinked and dunked their way to a lead in Game 5, as they scored a run in the first inning thanks to strong base running from Yeison Coca before adding runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning on RBI hits. They padded their lead in the ninth inning on a bases-loaded walk from Coca and an RBI single from Andretty Cordero.

The Barnstormers picked up the win despite not hitting a home run in the series, and now are 33-18 in playoff games, which is the best mark in Atlantic League history. They’re the first Atlantic League team to repeat as champions since the Long Island Ducks won back-to-back crowns in 2012 and '13.
