X's, O's and MLB bros: Opposing shortstops play tic-tac-toe

From fantasy football leagues to cheering on their favorite colleges, MLB players are all about competition, even if it isn’t baseball-related.
So leave it to a pair of opposing shortstops to work in a friendly tic-tac-toe clash DURING a baseball game. On Saturday at Busch Stadium, the Nationals’ Nasim Nuñez and the Cardinals’ Masyn Winn were the participants, marking X's and O's in the infield dirt between innings.
They’re not the first big leaguers to take part in a little in-game tic-tac-toe: Opposing pitchers (and former Pirates teammates) Joe Musgrove and Chad Kuhl did it in 2022 in San Diego, while brothers Josh and Jace Jung had some fun for the Rangers and Tigers, respectively, last year in Detroit.
While the Nationals managed an 8-5 win over the Cardinals on Saturday in 11 innings, it wasn’t clear who won the tic-tac-toe clash between Nuñez and Winn. Although Nuñez leads MLB in stolen bases with 46 and Winn is an elite defender with one of the strongest arms in the big leagues, their strengths on the diamond, after all, could only go so far.
