Nathan Church has made robbing home runs a part of his routine.
On Wednesday, Church robbed Pittsburgh’s Nick Gonzales of a potential walk-off two-run home run at the left-field wall at PNC Park, sealing a 5-4 win for St. Louis. This marked the third time the Cardinals rookie has made a possible home run robbery so far this season.
Last Saturday against the Mariners in St. Louis, Church robbed Seattle’s Mitch Garver of a potential game-tying home run in the sixth inning. Just for good measure, Church also clubbed a pair of home runs, the first multi-homer game in his career. And on Opening Day against the Rays, Church dazzled when he robbed Tampa Bay’s Ryan Vilade of a possible home run in the fifth inning that would have tied the game.

Church, an 11th-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2022 Draft, came up in the farm system known for his elite defense, which has very much been on display this season. But don’t sleep on the bat, as he’s posted a .714 OPS with five home runs in his first 27 games this season.
Church’s grab on Wednesday secured the Cardinals’ third straight win against the Pirates in the series and fourth overall win in a row. The Cardinals have a chance to sweep the series on Thursday.
