WASHINGTON -- All week long, Nationals players and on-field personnel wore T-shirts and uniform patches during pregame to show their support for Major League Baseball's Play Ball initiative, which aims to inspire all forms of baseball and softball participation.
A split doubleheader on Saturday forced the Nationals to rearrange most of their plans, but they still found ways to celebrate and encourage participation in youth baseball and softball this weekend.

The team handed out 10,000 plastic bat and ball sets to children leaving the park after the game on Saturday night, and it will do so again on Sunday.
Sunday was also the 12th annual Youth Baseball and Softball Day, presented by Inova, where players and coaches from all area teams were invited to participate in a pregame parade along the warning track. Kids 12 and under could run the bases after the game.
