Nats investigating individuals who displayed banner promoting white nationalist website

The Nationals have condemned and are investigating individuals who unfurled a banner promoting a white nationalist website calling for deportation during Sunday’s game against the Orioles.

The team has identified at least one individual, and that person will be banned from Nationals Park, according to a club spokesperson. The team also is coordinating with the Metropolitan Police Department on a follow-up investigation.

“The Washington Nationals vehemently condemn discriminatory and hateful rhetoric, and we strive to make our home field a safe space for our fans,” the team said in a statement.

During the Nationals “Salute to Service,” which honors military personnel, veterans and families every game, a group of individuals briefly displayed the banner. Once it was unfurled, a guest experience representative attempted to confiscate it. However, the representative was met with resistance. The individuals then fled from the premises.

The Nationals Guest Conduct Policy outlines banners and signs that are and are not permitted at the ballpark.
