Netflix drama series about the New York Yankees is in development

The New York Yankees will be the subject of a new scripted drama series from Netflix.

Currently in development, the series is being produced by Emmy winner Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Studios as well as MLB Studios. Writer/director/producer Josh Wakely developed the series concept, although few details are known about the project other than that it is based around the legendary franchise and will take place across several eras.

Executive Producers on the series include Bateman and Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films; Wakely for Grace: A Storytelling Company; Nick Trotta for MLB Studios; and Peter Sobiloff, Mike Sobiloff, Sean Mullin, Josh Glick, Daniel Cohan and Jon Liebman for Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

As part of MLB’s three-year rights deal, Netflix will stream multiple live events in 2026, ‘27 and ‘28. The streaming giant carried this year’s Opening Night game between the Yankees and Giants as well as the 2026 T-Mobile Home Run Derby. The next MLB event broadcast exclusively on Netflix will be the MLB at Field of Dreams Game between the Phillies and Twins on Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa.

MLB Studios has worked previously with Netflix on developing recent documentaries, including the Emmy-winning “The Turnaround” and “The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox”, both of which were released in 2024.

There was also “The Clubhouse", an eight-part docuseries that went behind the scenes with the 2024 Red Sox.

In 2025, MLB Studios was heavily involved in the Emmy Award-nominated “Ballgame” episode from the hit sitcom, Abbott Elementary. That episode was highest-rated and most-watched episode from the show's fifth season and has been nominated for an Emmy -- one of Abbott Elementary's seven this year -- for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
