'Get up, the Mets are signing you': Farmhand goes from indy ball to Double-A

Two weeks ago, Nick Lucky was playing for the Lancaster Stormers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, a Partner League of Major League Baseball.

On June 16, Lucky was signed by the Mets and assigned to Double-A Binghamton. It hasn't taken him long to make his presence felt. On Thursday night, Lucky tallied four hits for the Rumble Ponies in their 10-7 win over the Erie SeaWolves at UPMC Park. It’s been a whirlwind of a journey for the 26-year-old Lucky.

On Lancaster’s off-day on June 15, Lucky was sleeping in and had just woken up when he received a call from manager Ross Peeples. After some small talk, Peeples dropped Lucky this line:

“Get up, the Mets are signing you.”

This marks the second time that Lucky has spent time with an MLB organization. He played 60 games across three levels with the Twins during the 2024 season, before he returned to Lancaster, where he has spent each season since ‘24. That’s for good reason, too, as he grew up in nearby Ephrata, Pa.
