ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Nolan McLean will return to the mound against the Angels Saturday night for his seventh start of the season, carrying a 1-2 record and 2.55 ERA into that game at Angel Stadium. Here’s what to know heading into his outing:

Last start: McLean allowed just one earned run and another unearned one, but he was inefficient, needing 91 pitches to complete five innings against the Rockies. It was tied for his shortest outing of the season.

Stat to know: McLean has struck out at least seven batters in five of his six starts. He’s tied for ninth in the Majors in strikeouts, with 45.

What he said: “It’s where we’re at. We’re going to fight like crazy every day to try to get back on track and do everything we can. … We’re a bunch of highly competitive dudes. Nobody enjoys losing and going out there and not performing the way we should. I’m here early and I see a lot of guys here just putting in the work and really grinding. So hopefully it’s a matter of time, and we can all click and get it rolling.”

Next opponent: With just 14 big league starts under his belt, McLean has never faced the Angels, nor does he have any Major League experience against anyone on their active roster.
