North Carolina takes Game 2, forces winner-take-all finale in Men’s College World Series
One game on Monday night will decide it all.
In search of North Carolina's first championship in program history, the No. 5 seed forced the Men's College World Series Finals to a decisive Game 3 with a 6-2 victory over Oklahoma on Sunday.
After giving up a couple of runs in the first, Tar Heels starter Ryan Lynch (MLB's No. 97 Draft prospect) settled in and tossed three scoreless innings, striking out five.
North Carolina freshman Caden Glauber -- Draft-eligible in 2028 -- followed with five shutout frames, allowing just a walk and two hits while striking out eight. The Tar Heels moved to a remarkable 29-0 this season when Glauber played in the game.
UNC's Jake Schaffner (MLB No. 91) roped a two-run triple to right field to even the score with his 49th and 50th RBIs of the year in the fourth. He found his way home on a wild pitch to take the lead later in the frame.
Owen Hull (MLB No. 158) tacked on a solo shot in the fifth and Cooper Nicholson, who has 53 RBIs this year, added a two-run homer in the seventh for the Tar Heels. UNC's Gavin Gallaher (MLB No. 198) had a hit and a walk in the game, and Erik Paulsen had three hits and a run scored.
The Sooners struck in the first inning for the second straight game, with Jaxson Willits (MLB No. 146) providing the big hit on an RBI double that scored Camden Johnson (MLB No. 129).
Oklahoma’s Brendan Brock (MLB No. 109) went 1-for-3 with a walk in the contest to boost his average to .298.
Winner-take-all Game 3 will start at 7 p.m. ET on Monday.
