O's land 18-year-old OF Rivas from Sox to complete Adley deal

The Orioles acquired 18-year-old outfielder Harold Rivas from the Red Sox on Wednesday to complete last week’s seven-player blockbuster trade centered around catcher Adley Rutschman.

Rivas was the No. 32 prospect in the 2025 international signing class. He was Boston’s No. 13 prospect this year and is now the Orioles’ No. 26 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The Venezuela native -- who has drawn comparisons to four-time All-Star George Springer -- is batting .241 with six home runs and a .772 OPS across 46 games at Rookie-level ball this season. He has used his 60-grade speed to steal 23 bases in 28 attempts.

Rivas becomes the fourth prospect that the O’s landed for Rutschman. The three others -- right-handed pitchers Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon, and outfielder Enddy Azocar -- are the No. 1, No. 7 and No. 8 prospects, respectively, in Baltimore’s system. The O’s also got catcher Carlos Narváez in the deal while Rutschman and catcher Jake Rogers went to Boston.

After Rutschman spent about three weeks on the injured list due to left wrist inflammation, the Red Sox activated the former No. 1 overall Draft pick from the IL on Tuesday ahead of his much-anticipated team debut. Batting third in Boston’s lineup, Rutschman went 1-for-3 with two walks in a 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays. Rogers was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

The Red Sox, who have lost four consecutive games, are 64-55 on the season and in possession of the second American League Wild Card. The Orioles, who defeated the Twins on Tuesday, are 58-62 and two games out of a Wild Card spot.
