The Orioles on Wednesday activated outfielder Anthony Santander from the 60-day disabled list. In the corresponding roster move, outfielder Joey Rickard was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
A right forearm strain sustained in Spring Training has kept Santander, a Rule 5 Draft selection in December, out of action all season. He batted .382/.453/.745 with five homers in his 13-game rehab assignment with Class A Advanced Frederick and Double-A Bowie.
The 22-year-old Santander -- who is Baltimore's No. 9 prospect, per MLB Pipeline -- spent the first first five seasons of his professional career in the Indians' organization. He's batting .276 with 48 homers through six seasons (363 games) in the Minors.
Rickard, 26, has hit .254/.368/.659 through 93 games with the Orioles this season. Since Mark Trumbo's return from the DL, however, Rickard has been relegated mostly to a reserve role. He's likely to return to the club in September when Major League rosters expand.
