Machado notches 10th career multi-HR game

BALTIMORE -- Manny Machado had a huge four-hit night for the Orioles in Tuesday's 6-5 win, as the third baseman continues to show encouraging signs at the plate.
A struggling Baltimore club that entered the day with losses in nine of 12 games, saw Machado homer twice and drive in four runs, including a game-tying blast against Indians starter Josh Tomlin in the fifth.
"It's a team sport. You can't win [with] one side -- offensively, defensively, pitching, whatever. We've all got to stick together and do what we've got to do as a team. We'll figure it out as a team," Machado said. "At the end of the day, we're not going to blame it on the pitchers. We're not hitting either. We've got to get together as a team and do the little things that count, and hopefully that takes us to the next level."

Machado, who has slipped to fourth among American League third baseman in All-Star voting, put the O's on the board with a solo homer in the first inning to cut into Cleveland's 2-0 lead. He struck again off Tomlin in the fifth, delivering a homer to left field that marked his 15th long ball of the season. The second homer, which also scored Seth Smith and Rubén Tejada, tied the game at 5.

Machado nearly went deep a third time, settling for a double instead and scoring the go-ahead run on Adam Jones' RBI double. But neither he nor manager Buck Showalter thought the batting order switch -- moving Machado up to second -- was the reason behind his four-hit night.
"It's easy to say, but he's hit some home runs and had some good nights in the three hole this year, too. I am a believer in a little different, a change. Just a different look sometimes," Showalter said. "But I don't put a whole lot of stock in it. Manny would hit well wherever we played him. He looked real comfortable tonight."
Machado's two-homer night represented his 10th career multi-homer game, and he punctuated the feat with an impressive juggling catch of Edwin Encarnación's foul popup in front of the Indians' dugout in the 5th.
