O's-Mariners rained out, to play DH Tuesday
The Orioles had their season-opening homestand interrupted Monday when inclement weather forced the postponement of their series opener against the Mariners. The teams will play a single-admission doubleheader beginning at 4:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday, which will include John Means’ first home start of 2021.
With the 2021 rules package, each game Tuesday will be seven innings. Game 2 will begin approximately 45 minutes after the first game concludes, but no earlier than 7:05 p.m. ET.
Inclement weather in the Baltimore area initially delayed the start of Monday’s scheduled game by 1 hour, 40 minutes, before the official decision to postpone. The O’s were looking to get back in the win column after dropping five of their last six, including three straight at home to the Red Sox over the weekend. Baltimore will now play four games against the Mariners in three days.
The rainout doesn’t alter the club's pitching plans much. The Orioles will simply push Monday’s starter, Dean Kremer (0-1, 9.00), back a day, starting the young right-hander in Game 2 on Tuesday against Nick Margevicius (0-1, 7.71). Means (1-0, 0.77) will make his 2021 home debut in Game 1 opposite Justus Sheffield (0-1, 7.20).
Matt Harvey will start Wednesday against Seattle, and Bruce Zimmermann will get the nod for Thursday's series finale.
Fans holding tickets for Tuesday’s originally scheduled 7:05 p.m. game should use those tickets for both games of the doubleheader, according to the team. Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch, at 3:05 p.m. ET. Tickets for Monday’s postponed game will not be automatically honored for Tuesday’s doubleheader, and complimentary tickets are non-exchangeable.
Birdland Members with game tickets and parking passes to Monday’s postponed game may exchange the value of those tickets and parking pass to any future 2021 regular-season game once those tickets become available, the team said. That includes Tuesday’s doubleheader. Before Monday’s game was postponed, fans who purchased their tickets via TicketMaster had the option to receive credit toward a future game purchase or request a refund.
