In just his second professional game, Robbie Lavey checked off a pair of milestones -- with one swing.
Lavey notched his first hit and home run for High-A Fort Wayne on Friday, just one month after the Padres selected him in the fourth round of the 2026 Draft. The TinCaps, however, fell in walk-off fashion, 5-4, to Quad Cities at Modern Woodmen Park.
Facing a left-on-left matchup in the third inning, Lavey turned on a 1-2 pitch and sent it over the wall in right field. He served as the designated hitter in this one, but he has received high marks for his arm as a catcher, with the expectation his glovework can develop, too.
Lavey, now rated as the Padres’ No. 20 prospect, was twice an All-Atlantic 10 second-team honoree in his time at George Washington, while he was also a Cape Cod League All-Star. He slashed .322/.415/.476 with 16 homers over his three-year collegiate career.
Now, the 20-year-old Lavey joins a Padres organization filled with impressive talents behind the dish, including Top 100 prospect Ethan Salas and No. 4 San Diego prospect Ty Harvey.
