Padres' new City Connect jerseys as vibrant as city they call home
SAN DIEGO -- The Padres’ new City Connect uniforms are in -- and they’re once again defined by their vibrant colors and a nod to the cultural history of the region.
On Thursday, MLB unveiled the City Connect uniforms for a handful of teams -- including the Padres’ colorful new set, which again emphasizes the binational fanbase in Southern California and Mexico.
The colors, per the team, are “evocative of our vibrant landscape, rich culture, history and traditions” -- bone, obsidian, marigold, aqua, fireberry, and Padres gold.
The wordmark is refreshed from the previous version, albeit with new colors. As with that previous edition, the team notes that it remains inspired “by our beautiful, shared coastline, spectacular sunsets, and active lifestyle.”
The jerseys themselves are obsidian with the colorful wordmark popping against the dark background -- plus a marigold pattern adorning the sleeves and bone-colored pants.
Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the jerseys is the sleeve patch honoring Dia de los Muertos. The uniforms feature a La Catrina patch, a symbol of the holiday and celebration. She is adorned with a traditional floral crown, surrounded by ofrenda candles, set against the aqua backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.
The hat design features an interlocking SD -- a marigold “S” and an obsidian “D” -- against a bone backdrop with an obsidian bill.
The Padres will wear the uniforms for the first time on Friday during the second game of a four-game series against the Rockies at Petco Park. They’ll continue to don the uniforms most Friday nights, as they had done with their previous set.
Uniforms are available at the Padres’ team store immediately and available online at MLBShop.com, Nike.com, and other retail locations, including the MLB Flagship Store in New York City.
