Here are the Padres' Top 10 moments of 2019

1) Renfroe's walk-off slam
May 5 vs. Dodgers

The Padres trailed by a run and were staring down a sweep when Hunter Renfroe emerged as a pinch-hitter with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth. He walloped a walk-off grand slam off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen, giving the Padres an improbable 8-5 victory. Renfroe became just the 16th pinch-hitter in baseball history to hit a come-from-behind walk-off salami.

2) Margot (literally) walks it off
Sept. 10 vs. Cubs

One of the wildest games of the Padres' season was decided by a walk -- three straight walks to be more precise. With the score tied at 8 in the ninth inning, Austin Hedges and Travis Jankowski both worked free passes off Cubs right-hander Steve Cishek to load the bases. Manuel Margot watched four straight balls out of the strike zone and trotted to first base to seal a thrilling 9-8 victory (and delivering an important blow to the Cubs' Wild Card hopes).

3) Tatis debuts in style
March 28 vs. Giants

The Padres surprised much of the baseball world by adding 20-year-old shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. to their Opening Day roster. But Tatis quickly proved he was big league ready. In his first career at-bat, he shot a single through the left side off Madison Bumgarner. Then he dropped down a perfect bunt hit two innings later, sparking a 2-0 win for the Padres in their season opener.

4) Machado's first of many
April 3 vs. D-backs

Manny Machado signed his record-setting 10-year deal in February, but he officially arrived in San Diego on an afternoon in early April. In the seventh inning of a two-run game, Machado mashed his first home run with the Padres off the facing of the second deck of the Western Metal Supply Co. Building. The first of Machado’s 32 home runs sent the Padres to a 4-0 victory over the D-backs.

5) The Sheriff comes to town
May 6 vs. Mets

As a rookie, Chris Paddack instantly made it clear he had a flair for the dramatic. Paddack talked a big game, and he backed it up. In May, Paddack called out Mets slugger Pete Alonso, who had received the National League Rookie of the Month Award for April. Paddack felt the award should've been his, and he backed up that notion with 7 2/3 scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over the Mets.

6) Tatis goes deep
April 1 vs. D-backs

In the same series Machado authored his first home run as a Padre, Tatis cranked his first homer as a big leaguer. D-backs right-hander Merrill Kelly threw a belt-high fastball, and Tatis deposited it deep in the left-field seats. He became the second youngest Padres player to hit a home run in franchise history, trailing Roberto Alomar by just four days.

7) Hedges slams Padres past Toronto
May 25 vs. Blue Jays

The Padres combined for a franchise-record seven home runs against Toronto in their 19-4 victory at Rogers Centre on May 25. But the game still hung in the balance when Austin Hedges stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the fourth. Hedges mashed a grand slam off Edwin Jackson, the first of his career. For the rest of the night, the Padres' offense followed Hedges' lead.

8) Machado goes deep over Harper
June 3 vs. Phillies

Machado and Bryce Harper spent the offseason making headlines, before ultimately signing a pair of record-setting contracts. When they faced off for the first time, round one went to Machado. Putting a cap on an 8-2 San Diego victory, Machado blasted his first grand slam as a Padre -- fittingly over Harper in right field.

9) Tatis goes airborne
Aug. 12 vs. Rays

In no time, Tatis made a name for himself for his dazzling plays on the field and on the bases. Among them, arguably his most impressive moment came during the Padres’ 10-4 loss to the Rays in mid-August. Jesús Aguilar hit a liner that seemed ticketed for left field, but Tatis went airborne and spun for an incredible leaping catch, leaving Petco Park in awe.

10) Tatis gets knocked down -- and gets payback
July 27 vs. Giants

Giants right-hander Shaun Anderson did his best to back Tatis off the plate. Tatis was having none of it. One pitch after Anderson nearly hit the brim of Tatis’ helmet, the Padres' rookie brushed himself off and smashed a hanging slider into the right-center-field beach area at Petco Park. “If you’re playing this game, you’re not supposed to have any fear,” Tatis said following the Padres’ 5-1 victory.
