Tolle tied the knot over All-Star break, but baseball junkie still tuned in

BOSTON -- The All-Star break wasn’t a respite for Red Sox lefty Payton Tolle. Instead, it was a lifetime highlight.

Tolle got married to his longtime partner Devin in a small, intimate ceremony in the Boston area that included family members and close friends.

It was another highlight in a strong rookie season for the 23-year-old.

While Tolle focused on pitching, right up until his Sunday start in the last game before the All-Star break, Devin kept things organized on the wedding front.

“I was just trying to think of how I had to pitch against Chicago and then New York,” said Tolle. “Then I was focused on pitching in New York, so I think it took away my nerves from the wedding. But you know, Devin’s been an absolute rock star through the whole thing. It was a very not stressful wedding with everything, she was great through it all. So it was a good day.”

What did Tolle do to help?

“I was just trying to help with dinner, and stuff like that and the rehearsal dinner,” said Tolle. “But making sure families knew where to be, and it worked out good.”

The wedding was exactly what the Tolles wanted it to be.

“We wanted it to be very small, very intimate,” said Tolle. “Just us, our families, and it was exactly what we wanted. It was great. There's not a whole lot of things that I would change about that day.”

For anyone who knows what a baseball junkie Tolle is, perhaps there is no surprise he still managed to keep an eye on the All-Star festivities.

“We watched the Home Run Derby for sure,” Tolle said. “We were watching the All-Star Game a little bit at dinner.”

With the Red Sox jumping right back into the fray with a day-night doubleheader Friday, the honeymoon will have to be after the season.

“She gets to go sit up in a seat somewhere and have a Fenway Frank and a Sam Adams,” said Tolle.
