Homemade sign gets attention of PCA, who makes young fan's day

ST. PETERSBURG -- It takes just one minute and one small gesture to make somebody’s day. That’s what Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong did following his team’s 9-2 triumph over the Rays on Tuesday.

Crow-Armstrong went 3-for-5 and hit his first home run of the season in the win. But perhaps his most impactful action came afterwards, when he spotted a young fan in the Tropicana Field stands who was carrying a large PCA sign.

Crow-Armstrong autographed a ball for the fan, who was quickly overwhelmed by emotion.

“That's really special to me, too, selfishly, getting to see that reaction,” Crow-Armstrong said. “... It means a lot knowing that I'm making someone's minute.”

The Cubs star said he has seen how players such as Pirates ace Paul Skenes take the time after games to brighten someone’s day. He wants to do the same.

“If people are taking time out of their day as well to support us -- I mean, you see all the ‘W’ flags in the stands and all the Cubs jerseys, and we're in [St. Petersburg], Florida,” Crow-Armstrong said. “I just think it's important to at least acknowledge them at the very least.”
